Surrounded by native ferns, with rich blues and greens reflecting the beauty of Aotearoa’s lush forests, the painting captures both their presence and the quiet hope of seeing them return again soon.

I’m often drawn to the calming hues of bluey teals and greens where these unique purple and white proteas flourish. Their circular shape symbolises connection and the importance of family in our lives. When we nurture these bonds, our lives can blossom into something truly beautiful.

As the day begins to fade, fantails and monarch butterflies dance among mānuka flowers, glowing in the last warmth of sunlight. Built through layers of expressive marks and impressions taken from real leaves, the birds, butterflies and delicate flowers are then carefully brought to life in oils.
Dancing in the Afterglow is a joyful reminder to pause and notice the fleeting moments of beauty unfolding around us—the ones that can so easily pass us by.
