Original - Where Summer Sings
Where Summer Sings
A celebration of the unmistakable sounds of a New Zealand summer, Where Summer Sings captures the energy of tūī amongst flowering pōhutukawa trees. I wanted to bring their song and movement to the canvas, creating a painting full of life and expression.
Using cardboard, leaves, cotton buds and palette knives, I built layers of texture and unexpected marks. Finished in fine artist oils, this mixed media piece invites you to look closer and discover the details within the foliage and flowers.
Original mixed media painting on canvas, finished in oils
36 × 48 inches (approximately 91 × 122 cm)
Currently on display at the 2026 Art Salon at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery, within Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple, 16 Stancombe Road, Flat Bush, Auckland. View until 28 November 2026, Tuesday–Sunday, 9:30 am–3 pm.
