This painting brings together two very different kinds of beauty: the dramatic, full bloom of the peony flower and the delicate presence of the silvereye (Tauhou), a small but treasured native bird of Aotearoa.
For me, it reflects the way our world is woven from contrasts—bold and understated, familiar and new, cultural roots and the beauty of diversity. Living here in Auckland, I’m surrounded by so many worlds blending together, and I wanted to capture that feeling on canvas.
Mixed media finished in oils
30x40 inch canvas.
Hanging wire installed
